Zack Snyder’s films have become an intense source of discussion among fans whenever a new one comes out. From his days in the DCEU, his films have remained divisive among fans, with some claiming him as a true visionary while others are dismissive of his approach to popular IP. Netflix and Snyder employed a weird strategy for the films as they released a PG version of the films first which was negatively received by both fans and critics. The director has been promising that the R-rated versions would be a far superior version of the films. With Netflix coming in as a partner, the project looked promising and Snyder sold audiences with his enthusiastic visions for the film and how he wanted to push the boundaries of science fiction with the films.

However, the first two PG versions ofRebel Moonturned out to be absolute duds. But they at least managed to score good viewing numbers on Netflix, withRebel Moon: A Child of FireandRebel Moon: The Scargiveropened with 23.9 million and 21.4 million views in its opening weekend. Unfortunately, the much-hyped director’s cut of the films failed to reach the numbers of the PG versions.
What’s On Netflixhas now updated the viewing numbers of the director’s cut of the films and they are shockingly low. Both the new films failed to be in the top 10 in the opening weekend and had less than 3.6 million views on the streamer. Fans are complaining about how they were duped into the wholedirector’s cuthype, with the new films basically being the same incoherent mess with more blood and gore. It seems the director wants to go on a different route for his next film. In an appearance on theReelblend Podcast, Snyder revealed that his next project will be a small film devoid of any VFX or large-scale events.

The director further stated that after making some big films continuously, he felt like stripping it down and making something smaller that does not depend on any technology. He is hard at work writing this small intimate film which he is very passionate about. Snyder said,
I’m trying to do a small movie right now. I’m not going to say what it is, but I was, like, ‘Can I just do a movie without any visual effects in it for like five minutes?’ Then, I’ll go back to the insanity […] I’m supposed to be writing this little movie and that’s kind of what I want to do.
Fans will be happy after seeing this news as they have become weary of Snyder’s big tentpole projects and want something more focused that showcases his directorial skills. HisRebel Moonexperiment hasflopped horriblyand he needs something strong for his next project to win over fans again.
