Charles Dance, Tywin Lannister fromGame of Thrones, will be narrating this documentary, which is produced by Deep Fusion Films, a company specializing in the use of artificial intelligence in film. While this might be a novel approach to documentary filmmaking, the creative film space is not devoid of the use of artificial intelligence, having done so in films likeRogue Oneand shows likeThe Mandalorian.

This ain’t Peter Cushing’s first rodeo with AI

Before the documentary was produced by Deep Fusion Films, Disney had actually created a CGI dummy of the actor to use inRogue One: A Star Wars Story, which drew a lawsuit against the House of Mouse. However, it seems that Deep Fusion films have learned from Disney’s mistake, making sure that all permissions that in place.

The films are set to feature a slew of modern horror icons talking about how the Hammer films impacted them and the horror genre in general, such that it essentially set the landscape for modern American blockbusters even before Steven Spielberg came along withJaws.

The documentary is going to look at the immense contributions that Peter Cushing made to the studio, with his immense acting talent and numerous roles (including Victor Frankenstein and Van Helsing), along with the sheer impact that he had on the films that he starred in in general.

There are some concerns about why a documentary of any kind would use an AI

There are a lot of concerns about why a documentary, even if the subject matter focuses on actors who have passed, should employ AI to ‘resurrect’ an actor to use in the film. A lot of fans have been largely turned off by the implication that there will be a documentary that might use footage that is necessarily generated by AI, given that it goes against the principles of what documentaries are, to begin with.

“If I’m alive, I don’t want AI to do that”: Despite Star Trek’s Progressive Attitude, Franchise’s Most Legendary Veteran is a Big No-No on Artificial Intelligence

There have been a lot of concerns about how AI is being used in Hollywood, with more and more actors working to get contracts from studios that debar the use of their likeness as produced by sophisticated artificial intelligence. As CGI becomes more and more widespread and companies like Disney dive head first into exploiting that, the concern about soulless AI and CGI taking over our screens is a potent one.
