Months after the announcement, the actress spoke up about the reason for this split, which had to do with their dissimilar opinions on children.
Along with this, the actress also spoke on her dating life now that she has separated from the Magic Mike actor. Vergara revealed that she had made a stringent rule for herself when she was looking for a partner, something she has learned thanks to her divorce.

Why Did Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello Divorce?
Sofia Vergararecently gave an interview withEl País,where she opened up about her personal life and her split with Joe Manganiello. More specifically, the reason for her split with her husband of seven years. The actress mentioned that the core reason for their divorce was their differing opinions on having children. While Manganiello wanted to have children of his own, Vergara was not interested in the same.
“My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom. I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore,”
While further details were not required, the actress still felt the need to defend why she feels like this. Having a 32-year-old son, she has already experienced what it is like to be a mother, whereas the Magic Mike actor has not. She added that though Manganiello is younger than he and wants to have his children, she is not interested in being an older mother. While she does not shame others who have taken this route, she does not think this to be fair for the child.

Not wanting to repeat her past with Joe Manganiello, Sofia Vergara revealed that she has come up with a very strict rule when it comes to her dating life moving forward. The actress mentioned that she is not looking to date someone much younger than her, not wanting to have to deal with the same thing that led to her divorce in the first place. She mentioned that she would not pursue anyone younger than her.
“They can’t be younger than 50, I’m 51 – Okay, 49.”she added,“Yes, I’m intelligent.”
She spoke onWatch What Happens Livewith Andy Cohen about this, which led the host to ask her if a rule such as this was what she was going with as the strikest one moving forward. She mentioned that this was enough, and she was not interested in making foolish decisions.
