In 2019, when they starred in another Greta Gerwig project –Little Women, they had by then become quite close.Timothée Chalametas Laurie was the perfect pick as he beautifully showed emotions. During an interview withPeople, Saoirse Ronan spilled that she regretted not doing the cameo role in Greta Gerwig’sBarbie. There was a whole character for her but for some reason, she couldn’t do it. In another interview onThe Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Timothée Chalamet also admitted that Gerwig had asked him to do a cameo as well. Sharing it, he said,
I don’t know what the cameo would’ve been. I think it would’ve been one of the rejected Kens or Barbies—not Allan. Maybe there was a reject French one along the way. I don’t know what that would’ve been.
The filmmaker herself talked about these cameos in a conversation with CinemaBlend and shared that she was annoyed that both Chalamet and Ronan couldn’t make it in the movie. Greta Gerwig said,
Well, it was always going to have to be like a sort of smaller thing because she was actually producing at the time, which I am so proud of her for. And of course, it’s brilliant. But it was going to be a specialty cameo. I was also going to do a specialty cameo with Timmy. Both of them couldn’t do it and I was so annoyed. But I love them so much. But it felt like doing something without my children. I mean, I’m not their mom, but I sort of feel like their mom.
