Monster Hunter Wildsoffersdozens of overlapping mechanics, all designed to make you a more lethal huntercapable of taking down giant beasties.

Equipment Skills are a massive part of that, and they provide a ton of flexibility to tailor your gear to your play style.Charms are a fantastic way to add these Equipment Skillsto your build, and you can pick anything from DPS bonuses to defensive options.

MH Wilds taking damage

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of Charms in the game, so here are my picks for some of the best. I’ve tried to make these recommendations appealing to as many builds as possible, although I have included a couple of spicy specifics exclusive toWildsfor specific playstyles.

10Defense Charm

Back To Basics

The Defense Charm has existed since the mechanic was introduced toMonster Hunterand remainsa superb choice for beginnersor when your gear simply doesn’t cut it.

As you probably guessed, the Defense Charm increases your defense value, so you take less damage when you get hit. Honestly, you can accomplish much the same thing by upgrading your armor, but it’s ideal when you just need that final extra push over the finish line.

MH Wilds red health

The Defense Charm can allow you to survive damage that would otherwise kill youand is a solid choice against monsters you’ve never fought before.

9Fury Charm

High Risk, High Reward

It’s alwaysbest tofully heal after taking a big hit, but the Fury Charm is for my hunters who like to live dangerously.

The Fury Charm grants the Resentment Equipment Skill, whichbestows up to +25 ATK, which is a pretty big deal. The only downside is thatyou must have red recoverable healthto reap the bonus.

MH Wilds friendship charm

There used to be cute tech builds in previousMonster Huntergames that relied on red health for damage, which isn’t a thing inWilds(or at least not yet). Still, many afflictions in the game leave you with red health, and you can pair Resentment with other damage skills.

8Friendship Charm

There’s No I In Team

Damage is king inMonster Hunter Wilds, with survivability a close second. If you want toplay a support role without affecting your DPS output, you may enjoy the Friendship Charm.

The Friendship Charm gives you the Wide Range Skill, whichextends the range of your itemsbeyond personal use. This unique quirk means you’re able to down aMega Potionnear your buddies to heal yourself and top up your team.

You do need to stand near your friends to help them, but this is a fun charm to lean into.Items like Lifepowders are essential; you should never leave camp without them. Wide Range basically gives you enough group heals to aid the party for an entire hunt.

7Geology Charm

Reap The Rewards

The grind ofMonster Huntergathering seems to diminish with every game. Depending on who you ask, this is a good or bad thing, butthe Geology Charm is agreat way to streamline thingseven further.

The Geology Charm allows you togather one additional resource from nodesdepending on the Charm’s level. At level 3, almost every gathering node in the game will give double rewards, from bonepiles to mining outcrops.

Mh wilds Mining outcrop

Naturally, the charm provides zero benefits during a hunt, but that’s not the point. If you’re heading into the wilderness to line your pockets, this is the Charm to do it with.

6Blessing Charm

Is That All You Got?!

Divine Blessing is one of thebest Equipment SkillsinMonster Hunter Wilds, andall but the most skilled hunters will benefit from it.

You can get Divine Blessing with the Blessing Charm, which offers chance-based protection from damage.

At max rank, the Blessing Charm provides a 50% damage reduction, which is enormous! There’s still only a chance it will trigger, but Divine Blessing has saved my life countless times.

Monster Hunter Wilds Dev Recommends Franchise Newcomers To “Don’t Rush It”

Capcom suggests that Monster Hunter Wilds newcomers use AI support players to prepare for online play against real players.

It’s also a defensive skill that scales beautifully into more challenging content, as damage reduction is a percentage rather than a flat amount.

5Blight Charm

Leave The Nulberries At Home

Blights are a menace inMonster Hunter Wilds, particularly if you’re new, as they aresomething the game doesn’t explain too well.

Many attacks inflict a blight on the player, like Thunderblight, for example, which makes you more susceptible to the Stun debuff.

The issue is you have to know the game well enough to ‘know’ you’ve been hit with blight, spot the icon above your health bar, and remove the affliction with aNulberry.

It’s busy work, which you can completely negate with the Blight Charm. Ultimately, the Charm is less valuable when you’re more experienced but is a fantastic quality-of-life buffuntil you reach that point.

4Challenger Charm

Rise To The Challenge

The Challenger Charm is phenomenal andbestows one of my favorite Equipment Skillsin the series.

If you’re wearing the Challenger Charm, you havethe Agitator skill, which grants bonus damage whenever the monster is enraged.

Agitator works against every monster, with every weapon, and is particularly strong against the most aggressive foes in the game.

I rock Agitator and Resentment with the Greatsword, and it deals some utterly disgusting damage numbers in the right circumstances. If you want aone-size-fits-all DPS charm, you cannot beat Challenger.

3Chainblade Charm

A Wilds Exclusive

Many Charms inMonster Hunter Wildsare well-established in previous games, but theChainblade Charm is something shiny and new.

Wounding is a big deal inWilds, and the Chainblade Charm makes inflicting them much easier.Non-elemental weapons also receive a damage boostas a cherry on top.

Honestly, I’m still experimenting with this one, but I usually rock non-elemental gear anyway, so the Chainblade Charm seems tailored to my preferences.

If you’re up for an unproven Charm, give Chainblade a spin.

2Sanity Charm

Even Gore Magala Will Fear You

We’re heading intospoiler territorywith this one, so consider yourself warned.

The Frenzy Virus is a well-known affliction inMonster Hunter, forcing Hunters to play aggressively if they don’t want a deadly debuff. The plus side is thatoffensive play can reward a damage bonus.

If you like the sound of that last part as much as I do, let me introduce the Sanity Charm. This spicy new Charm makes iteasier to fight through the virusfor the damage bonus. It alsogrants an Affinity boostfor doing so, further increasing your attack damage.

Ultimately, the Sanity Charm hasniche applications, as most monsters don’t have the Frenzy Virus. If you’re farming Frenzied targets, this is a superb choice.

1Fitness Charm

Cardio, Baby!

Stamina management is a big deal, depending on your weapon choice inMonster Hunter Wilds.

Many rapid-hitting weapons drain Staminalike it’s going out of fashion and can leave you in a perilous position if you run out of breath. This can be a death sentence for dual blade and bow users, in particular, who will adore the Fitness Charm.

The Fitness Charm grants Constitution, which reduces stamina consumption from specific abilities. Bow users love dancing around all over the place to line up the perfect shot, and the Fitness Charm enables that playstyle for longer.

Pair Constitution with something like Stamina Surge, another fantastic Equipment Skill, and you’ll have enough energy to make the Duracell Bunny blush!
