BecauseBaldur’s Gate 3’ssystem is heavily based onD&D’s Fifth Edition,each weapon type is best suited for classes and races with certain proficiencies, which can enhance your attack rolls and damage modifiers.
For example, finesse and ranged weapons are best used by characters who have a higher Dexterity stat, while heavier weapons are best for characters with a higher Strength stat. Otherwise, some enchanted weapons aren’t used for melee combat, but offermagical enchantments that mages can take advantage of.
While every character of all races and classes can technically use any type of weapon, you’ll need to be proficient in that type of weapon to fully take advantage of the perks that the weapons can give you. There area total of 31 different weapon types,split between 19 martial and 12 simple weapons.
In case you’re unfamiliar with D&D weapons, martial weapons require a certain proficiency to wield properly, while simple weapons can be used by anybody regardless of class.
